The Ronald E.  McNair Symposium on Science and Technology Frontiers: The Role of HBCU/MIs in the 21st Century Higher Education will be held on the campus of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical  State University in Greensboro, NC. The symposium is tentatively scheduled to occur  January 26-28, 2005.  The theme of the symposium is "Shaping the Intellectual Capital by Advancing Women and Minorities Through Higher Education". The symposium will attract a host of graduate and undergraduate students, the academic community, K-12 students and teachers to discuss cutting-edge science and technology research and education activities. The symposium will also be a tool  to promote the role of HBCU/MIs in the 21st Century Higher Education in Advancing Women and Minorities Through Higher Education. There will be keynote addresses by noted scholars and poster and oral presentation by students and faculty from institutions all over the country. This is a call to submit abstracts on education and research efforts in all fields. We are also soliciting abstracts on unique outreach, pre-college, and undergraduate and graduate programs and activities that promote the advancement of women and minorities through high quality education. Please submit a one page abstract any of the following general subjects and related areas listed below. The abstract can be reviews, current and on going research results, education policy, demographic data, unique educational programs. We are also soliciting two hour long workshops and/or seminars on emerging issues such as homeland security such as nanotechnology and biotechnology. 

(1) Basic Science: Astronomy, Astrophysics, Astrobiology, Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics physics, Geology, Geophysics, chemistry, Ocean, Earth Sciences, space science, Acoustics and Music , Mathematics, computational sciences, material science, Earth and Space Science etc.

(2) Engineering and Technology: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, Ocean, Aerospace Biomedical, Military, Space Technology 

(3) Agriculture: Education, Extension, Precision Agriculture, Sustainable Development, Agromedicine, Telemedicine, Animal science, etc

(4) Applications: Nanotechnology, Biotechnology, Genomics, Bioinformatics, High Technology Health Care, Medicine, and Environment

(5) Humanities : Economics, Law, Sociology, Psychology, Politics, International Relations, Globalization and Global Security, Science and Society, Bioethics, Food Security, Conflict Resolution , Home Land Security

(6) Education and Multimedia: Technology for education, technology tools, Learn Science Any where, Assessment tools, educational software, Edutainment

Deadlines: The deadline for submitting an abstract is December 25, 2003. Full paper submission is on February 15, 2004. We also accept full papers during the conference. 

Format of abstract: all abstracts and full documents must be in Word format . The documents must be mailed electronically as an attachment to gutaye@ncat.edu. PLEASE INDICATE IF YOU WANT TO GIVE AN ORAL OR POSTER PRESENTATION AT THE SUBMISSION OF YOUR ABSTRACT.

  The deadline for submitting an abstract is January 15, 2004. The deadline for full  paper submission is on March 15, 2004 


Program

Pending the availability of  funds the proceedings of the symposium cotaning full papers, will be published in two or three months after the  symposium.  The proceedings will also be published online.
